KATALOG ÖVER HÖGESTADS & CHRISTINEHOFS FIDEIKOMMISS HISTORISKA ARKIV  - Piperska Handlingar No. 3

On the 20th April The IK Foundation will be releasing the next publication in the occasional series Piperska Handlingar (Piper Documents) – detailing the archival imprints of the southern Swedish entailed estate Högestad & Christinehof the largest such estate in Scandinavia, including the Piper family and its industrial heritage. The book compiled by textile historian Viveka Hansen is the third in the series – with previous publications from 1991 and 2004.

This publication in Swedish is published in a limited printing run of 350 individually numbered copies. The work spans 254 pages covering several centuries of documents from the curated archives at Christinehof. The ongoing preservation of the archives are today the result of the longstanding cooperation between Högestad & Christinehof Fideikommiss (entailed estate) and The IK Foundation, who since the late 1980s have worked to restore and protect this valuable cultural and historical material for future generations. During the 1990s Christinehof was the Nordic headquarters of The IK Foundation.

The archive has since its completion in 1991 been kept at the highest standard of preservation in a climate controlled, fireproof and acid-free environment. Whilst the stored material can be subdivided into three categories, from the Andrarum Alum Works to the Piper Family archive and the Main Archive. These form a definitive collection of material documenting the daily administration of the Estate, the Alum industry and the Piper family itself – from the early 17th century up till the 1970s.

TANKEBOK - Piperska Handlingar No. 4

Tankebok or “Book of Thoughts” is a short 48 page publication centred on sustainable actions and the long term questions which must raise when it comes to climate change and organic thinking. Knowledge based dialogue which spans from the Christinehof Estate’s founder Christina Piper - whose own text in an entailed estate letter from 1747 is published in full for the first time. This meeting between the 18th and 21st century is a conjuncture of knowledge and know-how. In helping us to question and reflect on the changing landscapes we now face. This is a unique work which explores the possibilities and challenges which lay ahead of us. The text is written by the naturalist Lars Hansen, Head of the IK Foundation and Carl Piper, the last tenant in tail of the estate in the culmination of nearly three decades of cooperation. The “Book of Thoughts” will not be commercially available, it will instead be dispersed to where it can do good.
