The IK Global iMessenger
Northern Hemisphere Fall 2019 | Southern Hemisphere Spring 2019 | Issue No: 10

Hi there!

As previously announced in an iMessenger on the important project, “A treasured textile historical book lives on”, The IK Foundation is now pleased to present the final results of a unique collaboration – spanning over four European countries.

TEXTILE SQUARES & ZIGZAGS – is the title of a monograph on the historical textiles called double interlocked tapestries or "Rölakan" in the Swedish language. Art woven textiles from the 18th and 19th centuries which fascinate interested people around the world. The textile historian Viveka Hansen has researched and published on the subject as well as curated exhibitions since the 1980s. Her classic standard work from 1992 "Textila Kuber & Blixtar” in Swedish has since long been rare to find.

Earlier this year, in IK's storage, we rediscovered a forgotten box of unbound limited edition copies of this book. These copies have now been converted into 20 unique and numbered hand bound beautiful copies, interfoliated with an in-depth English summary and a translation of 400 captions and names of designs/pattern combinations from the original print.

The bookbinder finishing his work by numbering and signing the twenty hand bound books – and checking each classically sewn volume of unique patterned paper, coloured / marbled edges, headband and two bookmarks. Photo: The IK Foundation.

This exclusive work has been edited by the author Viveka Hansen, together with a group of selected book designers, printers and bookbinders. The result is unique in both appearance and content – a long-term and classic reference work!
