Hi there!

We are living in a strange time for passing on knowledge and books! Strange because knowledge today is treated as a product that should be quickly created and distributed — preferably as a PDF file or an assembled stack of paper with a glossy cover. Will these glued pieces of paper still exist in fifty years? And where will you find a published PDF in a hundred years? Of course, it is perfectly acceptable if the content has a short ”shelf-life," but what about all the interesting knowledge that deserves a better long-term perspective and should become part of humanity's collective knowledge — what we once stored in libraries and later on our private bookshelves?

Books

Within IK, we have published printed books for nearly four decades, as well as free digital iBOOKS and essays for 20 years; the latter are based on the printed books and thoughtfully designed. We believe in the enduring idea that deep knowledge should be preserved for the future, so we put great effort into selecting topics for each book, as well as choosing paper, design, and bookbinding. Our aim is for the books to be used, to inspire ideas, and to serve as a “living” resource on the world's bookshelves.

There is much to explore in our online bookshop BOOKS & ART, where you will discover unique books, prints, series in the field of Reference & Scientific Books · Natural & Cultural History · Monographs & Guides · Voyages & Travels.

Ensure you receive your perfect ”Yuletide parcel” for Christmas by placing your order in November. Plus, enjoy a 10% discount when you shop as an iFELLOW! Don't miss out on these great offers — order early and make this holiday season truly special.

SMALL BIG NEWS

OUR CROWDFUNDING campaign ”Green Tech for a Green Earth: Launching The Field Station Lab”. There is now one month left in our campaign, and so far, we have not fully reached our goal. We work hard to increase interest, but we can only do so through the same long-term and worthy approach we have always used. We understand that this campaign may be difficult to understand, but rest assured, it is based on extensive field experience. Our aim is to develop an even better autonomous field station concept to study Nature and thus provide people with access to genuine knowledge and facts. To achieve this, we need your help with contributions, large or small. Welcome to join us in transforming how we observe nature!

Wader

THE SERIES ON 18th-century Linnaean fieldwork has grown with two new essays — numbers 7 and 8 — focusing on ‘Writing and Drawing during Naturalist Journeys’. These stories, part of a larger project aiming to publish around twenty freely accessible essays under a Creative Commons license, reveal fascinating insights from journals, correspondence, artworks, and objects. They explore preserved paper journals, diverse writing materials, and the vital role of ships like post-yachts and packet boats in transporting letters, parcels, and specimens across the seas.
