Hi there!

The numerous modern versions of éminence grise who are behind every job and project success in The IK Foundation, are a wonderful mix of people around the world! Without them and their unique efforts, many times it would be almost impossible to implement innovative ideas and projects – the basis for the good in the implementation of disruptive ideas and innovations.

A number of those grey eminences have been a prerequisite, during several decades, to be able to finance large and long-term projects in Natural & Cultural History. As an independent organisation, it is important to have a wide-ranging and generous view of the world; and to take knowledge far beyond traditional – not rarely isolated – scientific environments, only then real innovation and new opportunities stimulate the conditions for the implementation of otherwise complex projects.

One of IK’s most comprehensive research and publishing project was the monumental work The Linnaeus Apostles Global Science & Adventure, including 8 volumes in the form of 11 Books (6000 pages). It took over 12 years to implement and required extensive philanthropic funding to be realised. During this long period, the project ambassadors, who, together with IK’s Directors, worked on a broad front to find innovative philanthropic solutions. The ambassadors represented various parts of society, from science, public to business. In the latter category, the birdwatcher and Businessman Lars Gårdö, took the view that, like the other ambassadors, they would work under the term Pro bono publico!

Too rarely, we get the insight into who these people really are, that is why Lars Gårdö has drawn up a background of his interest in nature and culture, which we today have the great pleasure of publishing in our series iMAGAZINE | My Story – it has the title ”THE BIRDWATCHER WHO TURNED BUSINESSMAN — and later became ambassador for the Linnaeus Apostles”.

The IK Foundation has many friends out there; each ”cog” is important for us to be able to carry out these many times multidisciplinary projects, or for books and digital articles alike to be presented freely or affordable! The fascinating story by Gårdö confirms that we all, regardless of our background and ”surface”, have something to bring for the public good!
