Hi there!

Today, IK is excited to launch THE DONATION ROOM — our open and public crowdfunding campaign site. This long-term initiative has already secured one-fifth of its funding for the first campaign, ”Green Tech for a Green World”, and we invite you to join us on this meaningful journey. Support our tireless efforts and help us transform how we observe and appreciate nature. Together, we can make a difference!

The Donation Room

Wondering why you might consider becoming a donor? There are so many ways to describe this — philanthropist, donor, or even patron — each capturing a different aspect of generosity. It's a fantastic way to make a positive impact and support causes close to your heart.

Since 1988, The IK Foundation's work has consistently been innovative, long-term, and internationally focused on promoting Natural & Cultural History. As a wholly independent, not-for-profit organisation without public funding, the projects' finances rely on its own resources, scientific grants, philanthropy, and donations — driven by crowdfunding based on quality and trust.

A donation — whether small or large — is essential for us to execute projects and uphold a high-quality digital service on our website, which, by the way, serves everyone and is regarded by us as a democratic right. Your donation will create a lasting impact!

SMALL BIG NEWS

VOYAGE INTO THE PAST: A Young Explorer’s Vivid Diary from the High Seas

Step aboard a Swedish East India ship in the 1740s and experience the world through Carl Johan Gethe's eyes, whose illustrated diary brings a bygone era to life. From 1746 to 1749, Gethe documented his voyage, filling his journal with colourful drawings of coastlines, customs, and distant lands — depicting everything from indigenous clothing patterns to flora and fauna.

Gethe

In a new iTEXTILIS essay, textile historian Viveka Hansen explores Gethe’s observations, uncovering stories behind local garments and life at sea — including battles against cockroaches that damaged food, clothes, and shoes. The diary also includes a glossary of Chinese words related to textiles, revealing cultural exchanges of the time.

Dive into this mix of history, art, and discovery — where every page turns into a portal to the past. What secrets will you uncover?
