Hi there!

A few weeks ago in the vibrant capital Baku on the west coast of the Caspian Sea, the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sweden and Azerbaijan was celebrated. The IK Foundation has a long tradition of collaboration with diplomatic mission in various countries, not least with the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs!

Under the guidance of the Swedish ambassador in Azerbaijan, Christian Kamill, two key cornerstones were established for scientific research and the exchange of knowledge between the two countries.

At a ceremony at The Mirza Fatali Akhundov National Library of Azerbaijan [Mirzə Fətəli Axundov adına Azərbaycan Milli Kitabxanası] the Swedish ambassador presented the monumental work The Linnaeus Apostles Global Science & Adventure to the Head of the National Library, Karim Tahirov as a learned gift. This gift is not only a strong symbol of deep scientific knowledge and interest, but also a kind of global encyclopædia of Natural and Cultural History, a good representation of the early modern scientific ambitions of a country. In the iReport SERIES MAKES GLOBAL FOOTPRINTS – Diplomacy and the Linnaeus Apostles, the Washington based correspondent Karin Henriksson has also written about precisely what the books have meant in Sweden's diplomatic mission!

The second cornerstone was established a few days after the first, this time in the iconic building of the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum [Azərbaycan Milli Xalça Muzeyi] in Baku. Where Christian Kamill handed over the Textile Historian Viveka Hansen's recognised work Textilia Linnaeana — Global 18th Century Textile Traditions & Trade, to the Director Shirin Melikova. The book will become an important part of the museum reference collection for research, but also a historic symbol between the two countries ambition to develop exchanges in research for cultural history and art.

Of course, The IK Foundation is proud that our long-term and comprehensive works are noticed and constantly used to build new important development and knowledge between people, countries and organisations! In order to continue this high ambition, cooperation must be carried out at a wide range of levels, not least in the economy, a way of supporting the IK is to order our books…
