THE FIELD STATION | NATURAE OBSERVATIO | SOLANDER’S EYE
The IK Foundation, The University of Iceland and The Embassy of Sweden in Iceland has, September 2022, in a co-operation establish an autonomous research station, The Field Station | Naturae Observatio | Solander’s Eye, on Breiðamerkursandur, more specifically on Jökulnes.
The Field Station provides the opportunity to monitor the landscape biosphere, such a wildlife, weather, vegetation, atmosphere and more without human intervention in a remote area for up to one year. Jökulnes has most of the characteristics of uninhabited wilderness, as there is little or no traces of traffic or other human activities there. A large part of the area was covered by a glacier in 1998 and therefore part of the glacial cap of Vatnajökull, one of the defined Wilderness of Vatnajökull National
Park, when the national park was established.
This Field Station aims to continue the work which Daniel Solander started in 1772 – in a spirit of scientific curiosity and support for ecological sustainability, and in fact collect millions of scientific data to understand this unique part of Planet Earth.

THE FIELD STATION | NATURAE OBSERVATIO | MARTIN’S EYE
This project, carried out field work periods at Spitsbergen in the years 2016 to 2020. Together with the establishment of an autonomous Field Station ‘Martin’s Eye’ (during 2019-2020) placed on the west coast of Prins Karls Forland, Spitsbergen. It was named after one of the first scientific visitors of the site 1758, the Linnaeus apostle Anton Rolandsson Martin.
The scientific results, data and other valuable information can be found below and in links to this page. A printed monograph entitled NATURAE OBSERVATIO | SPITSBERGEN | SCIENCE EXPEDITIONS will be published in 2023/2024.

THE FIELD STATION | NATURAE OBSERVATIO | FALCK’S EYE
UPDATE (April 2020): SORRY! This project is delayed and will be dormant until the global pandemic has been brought under control.
UPDATE (4 March 2022): Due to Russia's attacks on Ukraine and the current political state in Kazakhstan, The IK Foundation has decided to refrain from actively developing current projects for the foreseeable future. This is regrettable from many points of view, but it is a fact! Our thoughts go to all our local fellow participants and people standing up for cross-border thoughts and knowledge.
