CONTENT: A single horn mounted on a wooden base in the collections of the Swedish Museum of Natural History. All original labels lost, but it is very likely that this horn is identical to the horn donated to the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences by Sparrman in 1776/1777. The Eland killed near Little Fish River on Feb 1, 1776, mentioned in his travel journal (vol. 5, p. 279), may or may not be the same specimen. The horn is not mentioned in the catalogue of Hornstedt (1788), but a note, “Elands horn”, is added by Sparrman’s hand.
GEO-LOCATION:WGS84(-33.08996, 25.77523)
