ANTHON ROLAND MARTINI

Birth registry from 1729

iProject

iPROJECT Written by Erki Tammiksaar, University of Tartu | Photographed by Estonian National Archives

Anton Rolandsson Martin [Anthon Roland Martini] was born on ¾ August in 1729, but as customary the birth was registered later (see attachment Estonian National Archives (Tartu), EAA.3159.1.49, folio 14, right below). It seems to be that his mother (born von Rothkirch) was connected to or even born in Estland or Livland provinces as one Pathen of Anton was Obrist von Rothkirch. The coat of arms of the family is available as a picture.

According to Rolandsson Martin’s autobiographical notes ‘Självbiografiska Anteckningar’ (Manuscript kept at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences) he was born on 3 August 1729 at the manor house Mijntenhoff. In the year 1729 the owner of the manor Müntenhof [Mijntenhoff] (now Mündi, district Jerwen, Province of Estonia) near the town Weissenstein (now Paide, 80 km south from Reval) was Baron Arend Diedrich von der Pahlen. He sold the manor in 1733 to the Baron Adam Friedrich von Stackelberg (National Archives of Estonia (Tartu), 957.2.223).
