CONTENT: Kalm showed a continuing interest for architectural features, constructions and traditions during his journey and in Quebec he was particularly detailed in his descriptions which stretched over several pages – ‘Most of the houses in Quebec are built of stone…’. A number of these houses are still preserved today in the lower city of Quebec, built before Kalm’s visit in 1749. This close-up study of the stone wall is one representative example.
